Inaugural Citizens Academy Kicks Off Successfully

Last night, the inaugural Washington County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Academy kicked off to a packed crowd.

Sheriff Mark Warden provided a comprehensive overview of the Sheriff’s Office — covering our rich history, the various divisions that serve our community, current staffing levels, and an open discussion on past, current, and future tax funding that supports operations.

Fiscal Officer, Pam Bates, delivered a detailed and transparent breakdown of the Sheriff’s Office finances. She explained pay rates, operational costs for equipment and daily necessities, and outlined the various revenue streams that help fund public safety services. Her presentation gave attendees a clear look at what it truly takes to operate a modern law enforcement agency.

We appreciate everyone who attended and engaged in thoughtful discussion. This was an outstanding beginning to the Citizens Academy, and we look forward to the next five sessions as we continue building transparency, understanding, and strong community partnerships.

Later this year, we will be offering another Citizens Academy, and community members will have the opportunity to sign up and participate.
