School Resource Officers
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer (SRO) Program is a collaborative partnership between law enforcement and school districts within our county. A Washington County Sheriff’s Office SRO is a sworn deputy sheriff who is properly trained to work within our schools to provide a safe and secure learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Safety and Security: WCSO SROs monitor school grounds, address potential safety concerns, and respond to emergencies.
• Education and Outreach: WCSO SROs educate students about important topics such as drug prevention, internet safety, conflict resolution, situational and environmental awareness, and responsible decision-making.
• Mentorship and Support: WCSO SROs act as mentors, build positive relationships with students, offer guidance, and serve as a trusted resource for students.
• Law Enforcement Role: WCSO SROs assist in handling legal matters on school grounds, assist school administrators with addressing incidents requiring law enforcement intervention, and handle legal issues that occur off-school grounds involving students who are reported to the SRO by students.

SRO PLACEMENT
• Washington County Career Center and Ohio Valley ESC Opportunity School are each assigned a full-time WCSO SRO.
• Fort Frye Local Schools and Warren Local Schools are each assigned a full-time WCSO SRO partnered with a certified therapy K9.
• Wolf Creek Local Schools is assigned a full-time WCSO SRO partnered with an OPOTA-certified Explosives Detection K9.
