UPDATE: Effective immediately Monday, 23 Mar 2020, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, S & T Division will begin taking appointments ONLY, to process new CCW applications, renew CCW applications and complete Background Checks.
We will not accept walk-ins for this process. You must call and make an appointment at 740-373-6623 ext. 4010. The hours for this are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
You must have the following when you arrive for your appointment: application completed from the Attorney General website (see below); certificate (if new application) passport size color photograph no more than 30 days old (2×2); driver’s license; debit or credit card, money order, or cashiers check for the exact amount.
If you are waiting for your background check or your CCW permit to be issued we ask that you do not call in to check on it we will notify you, and we will leave a message as long as your phone is able to receive messages.
**Background checks and fingerprinting will be conducted at the Civil Office Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm except for when the courthouse is closed.
The Sheriff’s Office is using the computerized Webcheck system to perform background checks for employment purposes. Webcheck allows quicker processing of fingerprint results and no longer requires the use of an actual fingerprint card. Under special circumstances, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office will use BCI and FBI cards for rolled fingerprinting. This is the same cost at a computerized Webcheck.
Costs for fingerprinting are $35 for a BCI check and $45 for a FBI check. The cost for rolled print cards are $35 for BCI, $45 for FBI, and $5 for each additional rolled print card. Payment must be made payable to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office by money order or cashier’s check at the time the service is rendered. Personal checks and cash are not being accepted.
