It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of our own. Retired Deputy Sheriff Matthew L. Simmons (1184) passed away on 13 Aug 2023.

Matt was hired at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on 8 Nov 1984 as a corrections officer and received his deputy sheriff commission 4 May 1993. Once he finished his training and received his police officer certification he transferred to the Criminal Division Road Patrol. 16 February 2013, Matt transferred to the Security and Transportation Division to finish out his career in the Court House. He retired after 30 years of service on 31 Oct 2014.

After his retirement, Matt retained his commission as a Special Deputy with the Sheriff’s Office.
