28 Apr 2023 Deputy Thornberry began an investigation in Wesley Township regarding damage to a USPS bin.

29 Apr 2023 Deputy Derkin began an investigation into stolen firearms. 

29 Apr 2023 Sgt. Painter observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the oncoming lane.  The vehicle speed was confirmed at 80 mph in a posted 60 mph zone.  A traffic stop was conducted, with the driver being identified as Brian J. Orsborne, 10375 Poplar Drive, Glouster, OH. A citation for speed was issued to Orsborne.

29 Apr 2023 Sgt. Painter while patrolling State Route 7, Belpre Township, observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the oncoming lane.  The vehicle speed was confirmed at 82 mph in a posted 60 mph zone.  A traffic stop was conducted, with the driver being identified as Cody A. Irick, 14 Fosythia Avenue, Davisville, WV.  A citation was issued to Irick for speed.

30 Apr 2023 Lt. Brown was patrolling Muskingum Drive, Pioneer Township, when he observed a white sedan with an equipment violation.  The registration was checked, finding it had expired on 29 Mar 2023.  A traffic stop was conducted and contact was made with the driver and owner.  An odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle.  When asked, the passenger, identified as Sean McGee, stated he had smoked marijuana earlier. McGee was asked to exit the vehicle and asked if he had anything on his person, which he stated he had some marijuana in a baggie. McGee removed the baggie from his pocket along with a glass smoking device. A citation was issued to McGee, 1005 SR 821, Marietta, OH, for possession of marijuana.  A warning citation was issued to the driver for the registration being expired.

30 Apr 2023 Deputies responded to State Route 676, Palmer Township in reference to a report of Richard Pritchett shooting a sump pump outside a home.  Pritchett stated he has asked his brother to stop using the sump pump to pump water out of their basement and into a field, as it was causing him to become sick. Pritchett stated that after hearing the pump start today, he went to the residence with a shotgun and shot the pump three times.  A summons is being requested for Richard A. Pritchett, age 54, 6046 State Route 676, Stockport, OH, on a charge of criminal damage.  The replacement cost of this equipment would be $305.00.

30 Apr 2023 while conducting stationary patrol on State Route 7, Newport Township, Sgt. Stillson observed a white Ford Ranger pass in front of him.  The vehicle was observed to have equipment violations, as well as being unclear if there was a license plate displayed.  The driver would weave back and forth in its lane.  Upon catching up to the vehicle, he immediately observed the vehicle leave the roadway (right side), almost striking a guard rail.  Sgt. Stillson continued behind the vehicle, conducting a traffic stop, with the vehicle continuing to weave in the lane.  The driver, Hunter Scott Douglas, had speech and movement which were lethargic, as well as the odor of an intoxicating beverage.  Douglas stated he had one beer at approximately 2000 hours at a friend’s home and agreed to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety tests. Douglas, age 23, 11 Glenna Street, Newport, OH, was transported to the Marietta Police Department where he agreed to a BAC test, the results being .089.  Douglas was issued a citation for driving under the influence.

There are currently 22 women and 92 men being housed in the Washington County Jail.
