On 22 Mar 2023 Deputy Eichhorn was responding to a breaking and entering of a vehicle which had just occurred at 44870 State Route 7, Grandview Township, Frontier High School. While en route a male subject was observed walking south on State Route 7, wearing a gray hoodie and holding a flashlight.  Deputy Eichhorn stopped and contacted the male, identified as Baxter Grimes. Grimes was observed throwing several things on the ground and walk away from them as Deputy Eichhorn approached.  After making contact, Deputy Eichhorn was able to locate the ID belonging to the victim of this investigation, multiple credit cards and other personal belongings along the roadway.  Also located was a clear plastic bag containing .95 grams of a white crystalline substance, consistent with methamphetamines.  Grimes was read his Miranda Rights and stated he was the one that threw a large rock and broke the back glass out of the victim’s truck. Grimes stated he threw the purse, which he also stole out of the truck, off the bridge just south of where this theft took place.  Baxter L Grimes, age 46, 817 Grandview Avenue, New Matamoras, OH, was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance, breaking and entering, theft, tampering with evidence, and criminal damaging.

On 23 Mar 2023 Lt. C Tucker was notified that William P Huft, a current inmate at the Washington County Jail, had a warrant out of Marion County, Indiana. The warrant was for fraud, theft and receiving stolen property.  Information on Huft was verified with the warrant and found to be a match.  A charge of fugitive from justice was filed on William P. Huft, age 68, 135 Rosewood Avenue, Northfield, OH. 

On 23 Mar 2023 Deputy Schwendeman responded to Liberty Township to a report of a breaking and entering with items removed.

On 23 Mar 2023 Deputy Eichhorn began an investigation into a Tactacam cellular trail camera stolen from Grandview Township. 

On 23 Mar 2023 Lt. Gherke began an investigation into a credit card being opened in a victim’s name, without their authorization. The appropriate steps were conducted to close out this account.

On 23 Mar 2023 Deputy Schwendeman began an investigation into storage buildings being entered and items removed in Marietta Township.

On 23 Mar 2023 Deputy Peters arrested Devante P. Griggs and transported him to the Washington County Jail on an active warrant out of Wood County, West Virginia for destruction of property.   Based on personal identifiers on the warrant and information received from Griggs, the warrant was found to be for this subject.  Charges for fugitive from justice were completed on Devante P. Griggs, 2021 Wilmich Drive, Akron, OH.

On 24 Mar 2023 Deputy Tucker began an investigation into storage buildings being entered in Belpre Township.

On 24 Mar 2023 at approximately 2326 hours Deputy Davis was dispatched to 12995 State Route 676 Watertown Township, in reference to a report of a gunshot.  Deputy Davis met with Andrew Dailey who stated he was arguing with an individual and he fired his pistol into the ground.  Deputies contacted the subject who was nearby when this occurred, finding her to be visibly upset.  Andrew Allen Dailey, age 27, was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Jail on a charge of domestic violence and inducing panic.  Once at the Washington County Jail, Dailey tested a .025 on the PBT.

On 25 Mar 2023 Deputy Tucker responded to Turner’s 1 Stop Gas Station, Waterford Township, in reference to storage units and campers being broken into. 

The following subject(s) were processed into the Washington County Jail 25 Mar 2023 to 26 Mar 2023:

Andrew Allen Dailey, age 27, Waterford, OH, domestic violence, and inducing panic, both misdemeanors.

Nicholas Lee Tanner, age 36, Tallmadge, OH, fictitious plates, a misdemeanor.

Melissa Jean Beagle, age 40, Marietta, OH, nonsupport of dependents and probation violation, 2 counts, both felonies.

Lesley Renee Bills, age 45, St. Mary’s, WV, OVI, alcohol, drug of abuse or both, driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, both misdemeanors.

Nicholas Alan Patton, age 37, assault, a misdemeanor.

Dale Henry Pugh, age 70, Stockport, OH, attempted murder, a felony.

There are currently 22 women and 91 men being housed in the Washington County Jail.
