WCSO NEWS RELEASES – 26 MAY 2022


On 11 May 2022 the Marietta Police Department responded to 726 Second Street, in reference to a dog at this address being attacked by Travis Lindsey’s dog from 728 Second Street.  Deputy Derkin began to follow up on the investigation and on 24 May 2022 spoke with Travis Lindsey in regards to the incident.  Lindsey advised he was unsure what happened, but stated he believed his dog climbed on items against their fence and jumped it, which lead to the dog fight. A summons is being requested for Travis Edward Lindsey, age 25, 728 Second Street, Marietta, OH, on a charge of failing to restrain his dog. 

On 24 May 2022 at approximately 0406 hrs. Sgt. Schwendeman responded to Reynolds Run Road, Independence Township, to a report that Shamen Thomas was at that location behaving erratically. Thomas had reportedly punched holes in the ceiling of the residence before going outside and attempting to damage vehicles, and finally stealing a 1996 Dodge Ram.  Thomas had been allowed to stay at the residence and upon being woke up, became irate, yelling and cussing at the resident occupants.   Also reported was that Thomas was offered a ride somewhere, which Thomas initially agreed to.  Once Thomas was advised that law enforcement was responding, he became upset again.  When denied keys to a vehicle, Thomas took control of the victim, holding them in a chair and forcibly taking the keys, all while making threats of harm to him.  Thomas then left in the vehicle.   A warrant was requested for Shamen Rayne Thomas, age 21, LKA: 2715 Danas Run Road, Newport, OH, on charges of robbery, theft, aggravated menacing, criminal damaging, and grand theft auto. 

On 25 May 2022 Deputy Martin began an investigation into an altercation on school grounds.  At the completion of the investigation it was determined that two juveniles would be summoned to Washington County Juvenile Court on a charge of disorderly conduct.

On 25 May 2022 Lt. Parks responded to Par Mar, 66 Arrowhead Road, Belpre Township, to a report of an unknown male subject in a silver Honda that was possibly impaired.  Lt. Parks observed the vehicle at the pumps, and a male subject beside the car.   The same male subject was then positioned in the driver’s seat, and the vehicle was running.  The occupant, Justin Michael Broffman, stepped from the vehicle when asked for identification.   Broffman was wearing a “duty belt” with an expandable baton, pepper spray, and handcuffs on it, stating he had a gun in the console.  Broffman’s eyes were glassy and his speech slurred, while unsteady on his feet.  The center console cup holder contained a baggie of an unknown white powdery substance and a steel scoop/spatula, along with a white powdery residue.  The loaded Glock 19 Gen was located along with packages that previously contained Naloxone Sublingual Film and Buprenorphine.  Justin Michael Broffman, age 27, 29433 Murphy Road, Coolville, OH, was placed under arrest and charged with physical control of a motor vehicle and weapons while intoxicated. 

There are currently 22 female inmates and 76 male inmates being housed in the Washington County Jail.
