Special News 19 Oct 2021


On 13 Oct 2021 at approximately 0527 hours Sgt. McConnell observed a vehicle, travelling the wrong way on the one way section of Warrior Drive, Barlow Township.  A traffic stop was initiated and the operator of the vehicle fled, turning left onto State Route 339, then immediately attempted to turn left onto Walls Way. The driver collided into the guardrail at that location and four subjects exited the vehicle, with three subjects running into the wooded area. The female identified, as Elizabeth Scheid, stayed at the scene.

The WCSO Communication Center received a call stating a female was at her residence asking to use the phone.  Deputy Martin arrived at the residence and identified the female as Taylor Puckett.  Puckett stated she had been asleep in the truck when it collided into the guardrail.  Puckett stated the other occupants were Elizabeth Scheid, Mason Nelson and Jeremy O’Brien. 

While processing the crash scene 2 catalytic converters were observed, which appeared to be freshly cut, in the bed and cab of the truck. A reciprocating saw was located and all items were seized.  Other items observed in the vehicle were a potted plant, step ladder, pressure washer, and radiators to name a few.

At approximately 1031 hours Deputy Martin was dispatched to 3118 Barnett Ridge Road, Barlow Township, to a report of a residence, garage and five vehicles being entered and items stolen. The victim stated he and his wife were in the process of moving to another residence, but was driving by the residence  and observed the side door of the home opened, along with several vehicle doors.  The victims began looking around the property and soon realized that someone had entered the residence, garage and vehicles.  The list of items stolen included a potted plant, step ladder, pressure washer, and other items. 

On 14 Oct 2021 search warrants were obtained for a 2001 Chevy S10.  Deputies located items in the vehicle belonging to the Barlow Township victim, to include a vehicle radio and amplifier that had been wired and installed in the S10.  

On 18 Oct 2021 deputies obtained a second search warrant for the home of Jeremy O’Brien and Elizabeth Scheid, 331 Hill Road, Cutler, Ohio.  Daulton Self was located at the residence at which time a pat down of Self revealed a plastic baggie of crystal like substance, believed to be meth, on Self’s person.  Self denied the package was his.  The substance was later found to weigh 4.30 grams.

O’Brien was observed running from the residence and was apprehended in the roadway of Hill Road. Scheid was present inside the residence.

During the search firearms were located in the laundry room and inside the dryer.

Jeremy Eugene O’Brien, age 37, is charged with having weapons while under disability, F3, tampering with evidence, F3, burglary, F4, breaking and entering, F5, possessing criminal tools, F5 and obstructing official business, a M2.

Elizabeth Ann Scheid, age 38, 331 Hill Road, Cutler, OH, is charged with tampering with evidence, F3, burglary, F4, breaking and entering, F5 and possessing criminal tools, F5.

Daulton Steven Self, age 33, 809 Brentwood Drive, Belpre, OH, is charged with possession of a controlled substance, F5.

O’Brien, Scheid and Self were all placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Jail.  All three subjects appeared in Marietta Municipal Court on 19 Oct 2021.  Self was released on a PR bond.  O’Brien remains incarcerated on $32,000 bond and Scheid on $8,000 bond.

Warrants were requested for the arrest of Mason Andrew Nelson, age 33, 540 King Avenue, Cutler, OH, who is charged with failure to comply with order or signal of a police officer, F3, burglary, F4, breaking and entering, F5 and possessing criminal tools, F5; and Taylor R. Puckett, age 22, 1319 41st Street, Parkersburg, WV, charged with burglary, F4, breaking and entering, F5, possessing criminal tools, F5 and obstructing official business, M2.
