“Operation Blue Sky” 2021

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

In honor of National Police Week May 9 through May 15, 2021 and Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15, 2021, Ohio and West Virginia Law Enforcement Agencies will come together to participate in “Operation Blue Sky” on Saturday, May 15, 2021.

Agencies will meet at (the old) Kmart parking lot in Marietta at 8:30 p.m. and form a “blue light” procession through Washington County (Marietta and Belpre) and Wood County (Parkersburg, Vienna and Williamstown) to honor those Peace Officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the communities that they served, and those officers who currently serve or have served locally and across the United States.  We hope that this event will continue each year to inspire our communities to support Law Enforcement and the sacrifices that the officers make each and every day.
