Beware of Medicare Scam Caller

The Sheriff’s Office received a report of citizen receiving a phone call from an individual claiming to be from Medicare. The call was received at 8:30 p.m. The caller explained that the red, white, and blue Medicare card was expiring and by Medicare policy, he needed the 11-digit alphanumeric number from the current card as verification before sending a replacement black and white Medicare card. The “Medicare” employee had no personal information for the individual, other than a first name. When the citizen refused to provide any information to the caller, this subject became agitated and began to make threats of harassing the individual and cancelling the individual’s Medicare plan and insurance. This caller was persistent and called back, after being hung-up on.
Please be aware if you receive this type of call and DO NOT PROVIDE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION TO CALLERS.
