On 29 Jan 2021 deputies responded to 1426 Barth Road, Belpre, OH, to a report that Paul Christopher assaulted Gary Nottingham at the residence. Nottingham stated Christopher walked from his property onto Nottingham’s property carrying a large flash light and a 10/22 rifle stating someone had kicked his dog. Nottingham advised Christopher struck him in the side of the face with the rifle. Nottingham and Christopher continued to fight with each other onto the ground. Christopher stated that he did not have a rifle in his hands and believes it was the flash light he struck Nottingham with after Nottingham got in his face. Paul Kenneth Christopher, age 51, 1420 Barth Road, Belpre, OH, was placed under arrest for assault and transported to the Washington County Jail.
On 29 Jan 2021 Sgt. Parks began an investigation into a theft from a financial scam. This case remains under investigation.
On 29 Jan 2021 Sgt. Parks was dispatched to a structure fire at 18695 State Route 26. The Little Muskingum and Newport Volunteer Fire Departments were on scene.
On 30 Jan 2021 the Barlow EMS and deputies were dispatched to 1245 McGill Road, Vincent, OH, to a reported overdose. Deputies and EMS responded utilizing an emergency response, to include overhead emergency lights and audible emergency sirens. When deputies arrived Michael Richards was asked what he had overdosed on, and assumed it was heroin. Richards was given medical attention at that time. At the residence one hypodermic syringe was recovered. Deputies previously responded to the residence on 11 Jan 2021 for a report on Richards overdosing on drugs. Once Richards was cleared medically he was placed under arrest and charged with inducing panic and possession of drug abuse instruments.
On 31 Jan 2021 Deputy Johnson responded to 8600 State Route 339, Vincent, OH, regarding an intoxicated male. The male turned his key over to the store clerk, preventing him from driving. Deputy Johnson met with Paul Hostottle, age 18, 90 Windy Ridge Road, Little Hocking, OH, who was slumped over the steering wheel in his vehicle. An odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected. Hostottle stated he was 18 and admitted to drinking earlier in the night. The cup holder contained a full Bud Light beer. Paul James Hostottle, age 18, 90 Windy Ridge Road, Little Hocking, OH, was placed under arrested and charged with underage consumption.
On 31 Jan 2021 Sgt. Parks was dispatched to 121 Pine Drive, Little Hocking, OH, in reference to Bryan Thomas pulling a gun on Johanna Riffle. Deputies met with Thomas and Riffle. Thomas stated that Riffle came into his room and began to argue with him. Thomas advised he was sitting on his bed when Riffle came in and slapped a handgun off of his nightstand and it landed on the floor. After conducting the investigation Johanna Lynn Rifle, age 49, was placed under arrest for domestic violence. Riffle was transported to the Washington County Jail where she submitted to a PBT for the correctional staff with the result of .155.
There are currently 14 female inmates and 75 male inmates being housed in the Washington County Jail.
