On 16 Jan 2021 Sgt. Parks and Deputy Young were dispatched to 100 Gale Avenue, Newport, OH, to a report of a disturbance at this address. Contact was made with  Matthew West and 2 other subjects.  West was asked to explain what took place with him stating he had people over to his residence and they had been drinking.  West stated he and another subject got into an argument with other subjects present.  West stated the argument got out of hand and there was a “little bit of a tussle”.   After conducting the remainder of the investigation Matthew Scott West, age 29, 100 Gale Avenue, Newport, OH, was placed under arrest and charged with assault.  West was transported to the Washington County Jail for processing.

On 16 Jan 2021 Lt. Reeder began an investigation into an assault inside the Washington County Jail.  The victim refused to prosecute the individual responsible.  Case closed.

On 16 Jan 2021 Deputy Crum issued a citation for driving on a suspended operator’s license to Brandon L. Ball, McConnelsville, OH.

On 17 Jan  2021 Deputy Crum was dispatched to 966 Dixon Ridge Road, Lowell, OH, in reference to Dennis Herndon throwing all his wife’s belongings out into the yard.  Herndon stated he did this to get her to talk to him.  Herndon at one point threw her onto the couch, putting his hands around her throat and choking her.  She then was able to exit the residence.  After completing the investigation Dennis Eugene Herndon, age 34, was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Jail for processing on a charge of domestic violence.

On 17 Jan 2021 Sgt. McConnell, while I was on patrol, observed a traffic/vehicle violation.  Sgt. McConnell attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle.   The driver stopped and once Sgt. McConnell pulled in behind him, the vehicle pulled back out onto US 50, and continued travelling towards Belpre.  The vehicle continued on even though Sgt. McConnell continued utilizing his emergency lights and siren.  The vehicle was eventually stopped with the assistance of a Belpre Patrolman.  Cesar Jaymin Huck, age 25, 1720 Center Bend Road, Beverly, OH, was identified as the driver.  Huck was placed under arrest and charged with fleeing and eluding, obstructing official business, driving under suspension, tail light and rear license plate violations.

On 19 Jan 2021 Deputy Gainer met with a representative from Charpas LLC who was reporting a Polaris side by side being stolen from the Wesley Township area.  This case remains under investigation.

There  are currently 20 female inmates and 81 male inmates being housed in the Washington County Jail.
