On 31 Dec 2020 Deputies Brown and Martin began an investigation into a stolen vehicle registration. This case remains under investigation.

On 1 Jan 2021 Deputy Painter was dispatched to 101 Westview Avenue, Marietta OH, to a report of inmate Laura J. Burns being in possession of suspected drugs.  Burns advised the substance in her bag was heroin, which she surrendered to officers.  The bag and substance weight was 17.16 grams.  Laura Jean Burns, age 28, 114 Shady Lane, Marietta, OH, was charged with illegal conveyance of drugs.

On 1 Jan 2021 at approximately 1006 hrs. Deputy Kehl was dispatched to Guernsey Scrap Recycling, 28087 State Route 7, Marietta, OH, to a report that someone was actively breaking into this business.  Deputies observed a subject, later identified as Deane Beck, in a carport located beside the main office. Beck was unable to provide an explanation for why he was on the property, other than he was passing through and needed some alone time.  Beck indicated he was aware he was trespassing.  Beck advised he located some Ritz Crackers’n Cheesy Dip within the carport, which he consumed.  Beck said he consumed the snack and smoked a cigarette. Beck was searched and found to have possession of a M & P 10” extraction and evasion cleaver, a Gerber fixed blade knife, SOG tactical Tomahawk and flashlight.  Deane Allen Beck, age 40, 615 10th Street, Marietta, OH, was placed under arrest and charged with theft, breaking and entering and possession of criminal tools. 

On 1 Jan 2021 Deputy Kehl began an investigation into a reported domestic violence.  After completing the investigation Deputy Kehl determined the report to be unfounded.

There  are currently 16 female inmates and 75 male inmates being housed in the Washington County Jail.
