Fleeing Subject Apprehended 3 Dec 2020
On 2 Dec 2020 members of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office were investigating a string of burglaries and breaking and entering’s in the Little Hocking, Barlow, Vincent, Beverly and Waterford areas.
On 2 Dec 2020 a report was taken at Decker Drilling, 11565 State Route 676, Vincent, OH. Decker Drilling reported a break in and a 2010 Ford pick-up, stolen from the business. Deputies were advised that a GPS tracker was on the vehicle and gave a location near Third Street, Beverly, OH.
Deputies located the vehicle and conducted surveillance in an attempt to identity the suspect(s) while the investigation was ongoing.
Detectives obtained information needed for a search warrant at 205 Third Street, Beverly, OH, and as preparations were being made to execute this warrant, surveillance showed a male subject enter the truck and drive off. Deputies attempted to box the vehicle in, however the driver fled and a pursuit was initiated.
The vehicle driver fled toward the Muskingum River, between trailers and along the Beverly/Waterford bridge, eventually striking a Sheriff’s patrol vehicle before coming back onto Ferry Street. The driver continued onto State Route 60, reaching speeds of over 70 mph. The vehicle was operating in a manner that the tire shredded and was throwing rubber, striking vehicles in pursuit.
The driver continued and began sliding, almost striking a southbound vehicle head on, however the driver corrected and went off the side of the road, across a ditch and into a field in the 20,000 block of State Route 60, until the driver ditched the vehicle and fled on foot.
Deputies executed the search warrant on Third Street and learned the identity of the driver, Robert Justin Wells.
A three-hour manhunt was underway with the assistance of other agencies, ending in the capture of Robert Justin Wells, age 39, 3491 State Route 60, McConnelsville, OH.
Wells was transported to the Washington County Jail, charged with receiving stolen property and failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer.
Wells is currently on parole and a parole holder was placed on him by the Adult Parole Authority.
Wells appeared in Marietta Municipal Court and is currently being held on the parole violation as well as $50,000 bond.
