On 7 Aug 2020 Deputy Hall conducted an investigation into the theft of drugs. This case remains under investigation.
On 5 Aug 2020 Deputy Painter issued a citation to William C. Bailey, age 41, Patten Mills Road, Stockport, OH, for illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
On 8 Aug 2020 deputies were dispatched to 17669 CR 9 to a domestic dispute complaint. The homeowners reported the parties involved were Christina Ward and Branden Barnes and they had left in a vehicle, unknown direction of travel. Attempts to reach Ward via public service were unsuccessful. Numerous addresses were checked for the two individuals. At approximately 2300 hrs. Ward called dispatch and advised she would meet a deputy at the Par Mar in New Matamoras. Deputy Brown met with Ward and she explained Barnes and her have been together and lived in West Virginia, however they are now homeless, living in the vehicle. She stated they got into a verbal argument and while arguing in the vehicle, Barnes struck Ward 4-5 times with the back of his hand to the side of her face. Ward stated she “felt like he was going to kill me”. Barnes took Ward to a friends and dropped her off. Attempts to make contact with Barnes met with negative results. A warrant is being requested for Branden Ross Barnes, age 25, homeless, on a charge of domestic violence.
On 8 Aug 2020 Sgt. McGilton requested a summons be issued to Leslie Starkey, 16619 State Route 550, Marietta, OH, for failure to reasonably restrain her dog. A request to have the dog euthanized was also filed.
On 10 Aug 2020 Corrections Officers were processing Joshua Poole for release. Poole was given his personal clothing which he wore into the jail on 7 Aug 2020. During the process Poole was observed with aluminum foil. Poole was asked what was in the baggie and he stated he didn’t know, that it was in the toe of “these shoes”. Poole attempted to open the baggie, contained in the aluminum foil, over the toilet, with C/O Scott seizing the baggie and securing same. The baggie contained .44 grams of a granular substance, suspected heroin. Information was received that Poole bragged that he had half a gram of heroin in his shoes. A charge of possession of drugs and conveying drugs into a detention facility were filed on Joshua Cecil Poole, age 32, 225 E Spring Street, Marietta, OH.
On 10 Aug 2020 Deputy Young began an investigation into stolen tires and wheels from Newport, Ohio. This case remains under investigation.
On 10 Aug 2020 Deputy Hockenberry was dispatched to 6265 State Route 530, Lower Salem, OH, to a report by Bradley Hayes of Paige Tharp tearing up items in the home. Tharp was in the front yard upon Deputy Hockenberry arriving, holding a child. Tharp stated she and Hayes had not been getting along the past couple days and she just wanted to leave the residence. Tharp stated Hayes shut the front door on her and kept shoving her back, while she was holding a child, telling her she wasn’t leaving, also removing keys from the vehicle. Tharp stated she got the keys and wanted to leave with Hayes grabbing ahold of the passenger door and pulling on it causing damage to the door. Hayes stated Tharp floored the vehicle in reverse while he was opening the door causing the damage. A summons is being requested for Bradley D. Hayes, age 24, and Paige Breanna Tharp, age 21, for disorderly conduct.
On 11 Aug 2020 Deputy Hockenberry was dispatched to 223 Antioch Road, Little Hocking, Ohio, to a report of Timothy Lovett overdosing. The LH Volunteer Fire Department was on scene and Lovett was found to be argumentative and uncooperative upon being revived. Timothy Tyler Lovett, age 33, was placed under arrest and charged with assault and disorderly conduct. Lovett had admitted to spitting on the squad personnel at the time they were giving him assistance.
On 8 Aug 2020 Jessica J Ross of 125 Fairway Drive, Beverly, Ohio, let her Jack Russell dog outside. Ross’s neighbor had a juvenile at the home at the time in which the dog ran after the child and bit the child causing injury. A summons is being requested for Ross for failure to reasonably control her dog.

Johnathan Stephan Burke, age 20, 480 Paxton Road, Gallipolis, OH, obstructing official business a misdemeanor, and identity fraud, a felony.
There are currently 20 female inmates and 94 male inmates being housed in the Washington County Jail.
