On 7 Aug 2020 a warrant was requested by Sgt. McGilton for the arrest of Christopher Burton Carpenter, age 50, 1115 Gilman Avenue, Marietta, OH, on a charge of breaking and entering and  theft, both 5th degree felonies.
On 4 May 2020 a residence at 33 Shaffer Road, Palmer Township, was entered by force and items were stolen.  Items from the home were left in the yard, as well as the perpetrator(s) also leaving and/or dropped some personal belongings, which were collected as evidence.
On 8 Jul 2020 Sgt. McGilton met with and interviewed Christopher Carpenter.  Carpenter was advised of the purpose of the interview and he was questioned about being at 33 Shaffer Road.  Carpenter denied being at this residence or knowing where it was located.  Carpenter was advised that Sgt. McGilton had collected evidence from the scene, which contained DNA.  Carpenter stated the only way his DNA would have been at that crime scene is if some of his clothing had been there, as all of his clothing had been stolen approximately a month ago.  Carpenter consented to a swab of his mouth for additional DNA comparison, which was collected and sent to BCI.
On 3 Aug 2020 the results were received from BCI and they were a match to Carpenter.
