WCSO NEWS RELEASES FOR 12 JUN 2020


On 30 May 2020 Sgt. L Parks along with other deputies assisted the Beverly Police Department with a possible assault complaint.

On 31 May 2020 Deputy Hall was dispatched to 331 Hill Road, Cutler, OH, to a call where Jeremy O’Brien had assaulted Tosha Hill.  O’Brien had left in a vehicle with a child without a child seat.  Hill went to pick up her child from O’Brien.  O’Brien at some point punched Hill in the face and told her to leave his property.   Deputy Hall observed O’Brien’s truck parked at a store while en route to meet with Hill.  When asked what happened O’Brien stated that Hill came to pick up the child prior to the agreed-upon time.  O’Brien stated he did not strike Hill.  Jeremy Eugene O’Brien, age 35, was placed under arrest for domestic violence and transported to the Washington County Jail for processing.

On 4 Jun 2020 Lt. Hunter began an investigation into a financial scam.  This case remains under investigation.

On 4 Jun 2020 Deputy Hall responded to 25 St. Andrews Boulevard, Belpre, OH, to a report of Randal Bettinger taking a child without permission.  Bettinger was told the previous evening to leave the residence by Sheriff’s Deputies after causing a scene.  The residents locked the doors last night (3 Jun) and went to bed.  Subjects stated that a message was received from Bettinger stating she was “worthless” and that he, Bettinger, had taken the child.  Bettinger stated he had found the child walking down the street.   Deputy Hall was able to locate the child at Bettinger’s residence, 2509 Valley View Drive, Belpre.   Deputy Hall was advised by another individual that Bettinger had stated he found the child walking down the road and brought the child to the home, and then he, Bettinger, then left.  Bettinger arrived a short time later and stated when he went to check on his child he could see the child standing in the living room window, and it appeared that no one was watching the child.  Bettinger stated he knocked as well as blowing his horn in his vehicle, but no one came out.  Bettinger then stated he went into the home and “grabbed” the child, leaving the residence without speaking with anyone.  Randal Bettinger did not have permission to enter the home and was not welcome due to the problems that occurred on the night of 3 Jun 2020.  Randal Eric Bettinger, age 21, 2509 Valley View Drive, Belpre, OH, was placed under arrest and charged with burglary and abduction and transported to the Washington County Jail.

On 4 June 2020 Lt. Hunter met with David Wiggers, 35 Ridgewood Blvd., Belpre, OH, in reference to stolen property.  This case remains under investigation.

On 6 June 2020 Deputy Young was dispatched to 1255 Cornerville Road, Marietta, in reference to Christopher Currier reporting Makayla L. Wright was inside his residence bagging up items when he arrived home.  Deputy Young met with Currier and a witness who observed Wright enter the residence and carry things out of the residence.   Currier stated that he arrived home and located Wright in his bedroom holding a gray shooting bag full of items.  Currier confronted Wright about her being inside his residence, in which she put down the bag and exited the residence and property.  Wright was later interviewed by Deputy Young and placed her under arrest for burglary.  Makayla Lynn Wright, age 23, 1045 Sandhill Road, Apt. 32, Marietta, OH,  was later processed into the Washington County Jail.   

On 7 Jun 2020 Sgt. Carr responded to 425 County House Lane, Marietta, OH, to a report of James Rhodes striking Jessica Stevens in the face.  Both Stevens and Rhodes advised they had been having issues and Rhodes did not deny striking Stevens.  James Dennis Rhodes, age 44, was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Jail on a charge of domestic violence. 

On 7 Jun 2020 Deputy Kehl was dispatched to 309 Longacre Street, Marietta, where the Reno Volunteer Fire Department EMS was already on scene.  The EMS were attending to an unresponsive female in a vehicle.  The female, Samantha J. Brooks, appeared to be very agitated with the EMS.  Brooks would not hold a conversation with the EMS, and appeared to be “passing out” several times.   Deputy Kehl placed Samantha Jean Brooks, age 37, 205 3rd Street, Lot 5, Beverly, OH, under arrest for possession of a controlled substance. 

On 7 Jun 2020 Sgt. Reeder began an investigation into an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle incident. This case remains under investigation.

On 8 Jun 2020 Lt. McPeek and Deputy Brown responded to 130 Cemetery Drive, New Matamoras, in reference to a domestic dispute complaint.   Sheila Gore stated her son, Joshua Gore, chased her into the home and threatened to beat her up.  Gore was located in the home and was pacing back and forth and putting on multiple items of clothing.  Gore was speaking and was hard to understand.  Sheila stated Gore came home and was pacing “loudly” in the house and when she tried to talk to him he became irate.  Joshua Leroy Gore, age 32, was placed under arrest for domestic violence and transported to the Washington County Jail.

On 8 Jun 2020 Deputy Peters responded to 1308 Williamson Avenue, New Matamoras, OH, to a report that James Ridgeway came to the residence against a protection order.   Ridgeway entered through a back door uninvited in which Jennifer McKnight demanded he leave, which he refused.  Ridgeway stated that he would harm her if she called law enforcement.  Ridgeway then left the residence at 0700 hrs.  Deputy Peters was again dispatched to the home due to Ridgeway being outside beating on the door.   James H. Ridgeway was located and placed under arrest for violation of a protection order and burglary. 

The following subject(s) were processed into the Washington County Jail between Thursday 11 Jun 2020 and Friday 12 Jun 2020:

Claude David Allen, age 28, 3666 State Route 93, Ironton, OH, parole violation and possession of drugs, both felonies.

Lora Lynn Salomon, age 45, 109 Maple Street, Apt. 3, Marietta, OH, probation violation, a misdemeanor. 

There are currently 18 female inmates and 83 male inmates being housed in the Washington County Jail.
