WCSO NEWS RELEASES FOR 20 MAY 2020
On 18 May 2020, while patrolling I77 near the 12-mile marker, Deputy Zide attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle with temporary tags. The vehicle continued to drive despite the lights and siren on Deputy Zide’s marked vehicle. Det. Roe, placing his marked vehicle in front of the vehicle with his lights and siren activated, also found the vehicle would not stop, swerving to get in front of Det. Roe multiple times, crossing the fog lines and even going into the grassy divider and medians. The vehicle at one point exited at the 16-mile post, ran the stop sign at the bottom of the exit ramp and re-entered I77 northbound. Deputies were blocking the lane at the top of the ramp at which time the vehicle swerved over the grass between the lanes of travel, missing the marked cruiser only by inches. Deputies continued to follow the vehicle, with the vehicle changing lanes, driving over the marked lane lines, and speeding. The vehicle then made a last-minute turn onto exit 25 and did so by crossing over the grassy divider between the exit ramp and I77, as there was a marked patrol car blocking the exit. The vehicle again almost struck the marked patrol car at that location. The vehicle finally came to a stop at the gas station off exit 25 in Noble County. The driver, identified as Brandon Lamont Addison, surrendered and was taken into custody. Addison, age 23, 319 Bacote Street, Darlington, SC, was placed under arrest for failure to comply, lanes of travel and marked lanes violations, driving under suspension and speed.
