“Operation Blue Sky” 2020

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

In Honor of Police Week May 10 through May 16, 2020, and Peace Officers Memorial Day May 15, 2020, Ohio and West Virginia Law Enforcement Agencies including Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Marietta Police Department, Belpre Police Department, Beverly Police Department, Marietta College Police, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Wood County Sheriff’s Department, Parkersburg Police Department, Vienna Police Department, Williamstown Police Department, and West Virginia State Police will participate in “Operation Blue Sky” on May 15, 2020.

Law Enforcement Agencies will meet at (the old) Kmart parking lot in Marietta at 2030 hours and form a blue light procession through Washington County, Marietta, Belpre, Wood County, Parkersburg, Vienna, and Williamstown to Honor those Peace Officers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the communities that they served and the officers that serve or have served locally and across the United States.  This is an unprecedented event that will continue to inspire our communities to support Law Enforcement and the sacrifices that they make each and every day.
