WCSO NEWS RELEASES FOR 6 MAY 2020


On 29 Apr 2020 Deputy Brown responded to 80 Little Eight Mile Road, Marietta, to a domestic dispute complaint.  Ricky Smith stated his son, Eric Wright, had struck him in the back with something and cut him. Deputy Brown met with Smith who advised he last saw Wright going in the woods.  Multiple times it was attempted to speak with Wright, using the public address system, however, they met with negative results. Wright had struck Smith several times with a plastic children’s garden tool from the yard after a verbal argument with him.   A warrant was requested and issued through Marietta Municipal Court for Ricky D. Wright, age 34, 80 Little Eight Mile Road, Marietta, OH, on a charge of domestic violence. 

On 1 May 2020 Deputy Hall responded to Belpre Township in reference to a juvenile striking a sibling.  After completing the investigation the juvenile was charged with two counts of domestic violence.     

On 3 May 2020 Sgt. Parks and Deputy Hockenberry were dispatched to Joe Skinner Road near State Route 7 to a suspicious subject parked along the road.  Contact was made with the driver and sole occupant, Matthew Allen Benson, who advised he was waiting to pick up someone in Belpre after their shift.  Deputies detected an odor of suspected marijuana emitting from the vehicle and asked Benson if he had anything illegal in the vehicle as they were detecting the odor of marijuana.  Benson advised he had a small amount of marijuana in the glove box and had smoked some earlier today.  Permission to search was obtained and drug paraphernalia was located in the vehicle, along with a baggie and container of suspected marijuana.  A summons is being requested through Marietta Municipal Court for Matthew Allen Benson, age 24, 833 Second Street, Lot 1, Marietta, OH, for possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On 3 May 2020 at approximately 2347 hours Deputy Kehl and Deputy Allender were dispatched to 101 Mulberry Street, Newport, OH, to a report of Micah Moxley choking Tori Starcher.  Starcher fled the residence to get away from Moxley.  Starcher described the assault as it occurred and bruising and marks were observed on Starcher.  Moxley advised he knew Deputies were coming for him.  Moxley confirmed some of the incidents that occurred.  Micah James Moxley, age 24, was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Jail on a domestic violence charge.

On 4 May 2020 Deputy Brown was dispatched to State Route 676 to a storage building being entered and items removed.  This case remains under investigation.

On 4 May 2020 Deputy Peters responded to the Oriana House, 27830 State Route 7,  Marietta, Ohio.  Information was received that Cody Allen Carpenter, age 30, 316 Woodlawn Avenue, Cambridge, OH, was identified as a subject that drugs located in the facility belonged to.  Carpenter was charged with conveying into a detention facility and was transported to the Washington County Jail for processing.

On 4 May 2020 at approximately 1730 hours Deputy Painter responded to Macksburg, where it was reported that Joanie Gildow and Glen Williams had gotten into a verbal argument.  Gildow had allegedly attacked Williams and scratched him.  Gildow stated she struck Williams, but only after he struck her.  Williams stated he didn’t scratch Gildow, but may have pushed her.  Joanie Danielle Gildow, age 40, 520 High Street, Marietta, OH, was placed under arrest and charged with domestic violence.  Gildow was transported to the Washington County Jail for processing.

The following subject(s) were processed into the Washington County Jail between Tuesday 5 May 2020 and Wednesday 6 May 2020:

Travis Eugene Williams, age 23, 1750 Laurel Ridge Road, Lowell, OH, probation violation, a misdemeanor.

There are currently 10  female inmates and 50 male inmates being housed in the Washington County Jail.
