Sheriff Mincks Shares County Commissioners Decision to Close Washington County Courthouse

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: As of 5:00 p.m. this afternoon, the Washington County Courthouse will be closed to walk-in visitors. Those with business to transact are encouraged to call (740) 373-6623 to be directed to the appropriate office.

For those who need a civil stalking protection order, sexually oriented offense protection order, or a domestic violence civil protection order, please contact the victim advocate at 740-373-0043. She will consult with the victim to see if the victim can meet the criteria for a protection order. If so, the victim advocate will prepare the petition for the protection order and read it to the magistrate. The magistrate will then make her decision as to whether to grant or deny the petition. If granted, a full hearing will take place in 7 to 10 days as is the normal practice.

This action is being taken as a precautionary measure to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

Everyone should stay as informed as possible. By following the advice of our healthcare professionals, we can collaborate to reduce the spread of the virus. This will ensure that needed resources remain available to our healthcare providers to protect those who are vulnerable. Each individual doing their part to follow these steps will help contain the spread of this virus. Some of the suggested best practices are below:

Avoid close contact with people who are sick

Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth

Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care [Call BEFORE you GO]

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds

Keep your distance from other individuals. Six feet apart is the recommended distance to limit contact

Plan for the possible canceling of non-essential travel, consider staggered work schedules, web based seminars, postponing meetings or holding them remotely.

Do not shake hands with one another, do not use public pens.

The Commissioners, Elected Officials, and Department Heads’ ultimate goal is to protect our community from this pandemic. We respectfully request your cooperation and understanding during this unprecedented event.
