On 22 Jun 19 Deputy J McConnell responded to Belpre Township to a possible domestic incident. In speaking with all parties this case was determined to be unfounded.
On 23 Jun 19 Deputy Brown responded to Parkway Townhouses, 1308 Williamson Avenue, New Matamoras, OH, in reference to a criminal damaging complaint. Charles Slonaker stated he and Sabrina Rutter were in a verbal argument in the parking lot and Rutter took a baseball bat and struck his car several times, and then went back inside. Sabrina Rutter admitted to doing the damage. A summons is being requested for Sabrina Nichoal Rutter, age 25, 1308 Williamson Avenue, Apt. 3B, New Matamoras, OH, for criminal damaging.
On 23 Jun 19 a Great Pyrenees belonging to Debra Brown, 915 Front Street, Marietta, OH, became loose from the property and hindered traffic along Front Street near Second Street. Brown stated the dog got out through a hole in the fence. Brown stated the dog was registered, however could not provide the tag number, and her name could not be located in the dog tag system. A summons is being requested for Brown for failure to register her dog and failure to restrain.
On 25 Jun 19 Deputy Zide was dispatched to 38175 State Route 7, to assist the Ohio Highway Patrol with an assault complaint. Mary Brooks reported that Jason Strickler had pushed her to the ground and punched her in the face while at his residence at 765 Danas Run Road, Newport, OH. Brooks advised that there was a witness, but they did not intervene. Brooks stated Strickler was enraged that she was there, which ultimately led to the push and punch. A warrant is being requested for Jason Lee Strickler, age 40, Newport, OH, for assault.

On 26 Jun 19 Deputy Zide began an investigation in reference to a subject being scammed out of cash from a Craigslist advertisement/purchase.
On 26 Jun 19 Sgt. McGilton was advised that 3 of 4 Pitbull dogs that belong to Derek Vanhorn, 554 Sand Ridge Road, Waterford, Ohio, ran loose from his property. One of the dogs, a gray/white male Pitbull went onto a neighbor’s property and viciously attacked and killed a Beagle dog, which was being walked on a leash. The individual walking the Beagle was injured in the process, when trying to fend off the Pitbull. After the Pitbull killed the Beagle, a neighbor shot in the direction of the dogs to get the Pitbull to release the Beagle. Vanhorn was aware of this incident as it was happening and gathered three of his dogs and fled the area, leaving behind the dog that killed the Beagle. The Pitbull was captured and transported to the Humane Society where it is currently being housed. A summons is being requested for Derek Jordon Vanhorn, age 31, 554 Sand Ridge Road, Waterford, OH, on a charge of failing to restrain and failing to register his dogs. Sgt. McGilton will also request that Derek Vanhorn be ordered to pay restitution to the victim(s) for the medical expenses acquired and for the value of the dog, which his dog had killed.
On 26 Jun 19 Deputy Schwendeman issued a citation for speed, 86 mph in a 70 mph zone to Shirley Ann Caperton, 374 Wirth Avenue, Akron, Ohio.
On 26 Jun 19 Deputy Schwendeman while patrolling near the intersection of State Route 60 and Millgate Road, Marietta, Ohio, observed a vehicle turn northbound onto State Route 60 without stopping at a posted stop sign. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and upon making contact with the driver, Steven D. Hinton, he advised he was distracted and admitted to coasting through the stop sign. A citation was issued to Hinton, age 31, 607 Center Street, Beverly, OH, for failure to obey a traffic control device.
On 27 Jun 19 Deputy Young responded to 1170 Tice Run Road, New Matamoras, Ohio, in reference to Curtis Howell threatening to kill Heather Howell. Deputies responded and met with Heather who stated she went to pick up her son from Curtis on 26 Jun 19. At that time a verbal argument took place between Curtis and Heather. During the argument Heather told Curtis she wanted a divorce and wanted him to move out. Heather then left the residence. At approximately 0200 hrs. on 27 Jun 19 Heather returned to 12411 County Road 9 (where Curtis was residing) and entered the residence. At that time Heather and Curtis again argued and exited the residence arguing. At one point Curtis pulled Heather’s hair and pushed her up against the residence. Heather stated Curtis told her he would “gut her like a pig”. On 27 Jun 19 Deputies responded to County Road 9 in an attempt to locate Curtis Howell. The homeowner granted permission to search the residence, stating that Curtis was not there, however Curtis was found hiding in a bedroom closet. Curtis exited the closet and emptied his pockets, revealing two containers of suspected methamphetamine. Curtis Dean Howell, age 34, 1170 Tice Run Road, New Matamoras, OH, was placed under arrest for domestic violence, obstructing official business, possession of controlled substances and having weapons while under disability. Howell was transported to the Washington County Jail.
On 27 Jun 19 Deputy Parks met with William Chutes, 102 Simpson Street, Marietta, OH, in reference to a missing firearm. This case remains under investigation.
On 28 Jun 19 Deputy Zide was patrolling US 50 when a Saturn passenger car commit a traffic offense. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle. The driver and occupants were advised the reason for the stop. Based on multiple observations K9 Rita was deployed, in which she gave a positive indication on the front passenger door, where David Dyson was seated. The occupants exited the vehicle and Dyson admitted to having a box of drug paraphernalia. This box was recovered, containing a pill grinder with white residue, marijuana pipe, a marijuana grinder, and various other drug tools. A summons is being requested for David Allen Dyson, age 27, 6131 Frost Road, Coolville, OH, on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Joshua Cecil Poole, age 31, 225 E. Spring Street, Marietta, OH, having weapons while under disability, a felony.

There are currently 20 female inmates and 89 male inmates being housed in the Washington County Jail.
