Community College Scam

Please be advised of a new scam that has been brought to our attention at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Several individuals have reported an email they have received supposedly from Washington State Community College. The email states it is from the college president and requests a phone number from the recipient. Once a phone number is obtained, the recipient receives a text message from the same subject requesting monetary assistance in the form of an I Tunes gift card. The subject requests the victim purchase a gift card and send a picture of the card and pin number to them.

We are currently conducting an investigation into this scam.
