Flood Warning National Weather Service Charleston WV 216 AM EST SUN DEC 16 2018 Washington OH-Pleasants WV-Wood WV- 216 AM EST SUN DEC 16 2018 The National Weather Service in Charleston West Virginia has issued a * Flood Warning for Urban Areas and Small Streams in... Central Washington County in southeastern Ohio... Pleasants County in northwestern West Virginia... North central Wood County in northwestern West Virginia... * Until 1115 AM EST Sunday. * At 212 AM EST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated that heavy rain had fallen over the area. The heavy rain will cause flooding. Up to one inch of rain has already fallen. * There were stream rises on the Duck and Little Muskingum Creeks, and other small streams, and these streams may come out of their banks overnight. There were some road closures and restrictions in the warned area due to high water, including along the Duck Creek. * Some locations that will experience flooding include... Marietta, St. Marys, Vienna, Williamstown, Belmont, Boaz, Newport, Matamoras, Lowell, Macksburg, Lower Salem, Willow Island, Maxwell, Arvilla, Point Lookout, New Matamoras and Devola. Additional rainfall amounts of a quarter to a half inch are possible in the warned area overnight into early Sunday morning. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Heed high water and road closure signs. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
