On 27 Nov 18 the Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting William McFall, New Matamoras, OH, needed a squad as he appeared to be severely beaten and possibly shot.

McFall had driven to a safe location and law enforcement was then notified.  The Newport Squad responded to the scene and McFall was transported for medical treatment.

Detectives responded to the emergency room and noted McFall appeared to have several lacerations, abrasions, tears, and fracture(s).  McFall advised Detectives he was at home in New Matamoras when Joseph Slider, along with two unknown males and an unknown female came to his home.  McFall allowed the subjects into his home and one of the males pointed a pistol at him and said they needed keys for the safe.  McFall stated as he placed keys in his pocket a struggle ensued and the pistol went off, narrowly missing McFall’s head.  McFall attempted to escape the residence at which time one of the men struck him from behind causing him to fall.  McFall stated the male then began “pistol whipping” him and Slider beat him repeatedly with an unknown object until he passed out.

McFall later woke and all the subjects were gone.  McFall reported he was missing a Hi-Point 9mm pistol, a 357 Taurus, a 22 Magnum, a 20 ga. shotgun, a 45 cal. Remington, and cash.  McFall then drove himself away from the scene for medical attention and law enforcement assistance.

Detectives processed the scene and found evidence consistent with the events that McFall had reported.

On 28 Nov 18 a warrant was requested and issued for Joseph Lee Slider, age 28, lka: 112 Sunset Avenue, Marietta, OH, for aggravated robbery, a 1st-degree felony, and felonious assault, a 2nd-degree felony.

Additional investigation revealed that prior to the robbery/assault Slider was seen in New Matamoras, in close proximity to the McFall home, with a Gabriella Chaffin and  John Decker.

Detectives were able to obtain video footage that shows Chaffin and Decker at approximately 0150 hours on 27 Nov 18.  The description of the female in the McFall residence matched that of Chaffin.

Additionally, the third male subject involved in the robbery and assault was identified as Jonathan Ahart, 251 Poplar Street, Davisville, WV.  Detectives went to the Ahart home and observed a black older vehicle.  Witnesses reported seeing Slider, Decker, an unknown male, and Chaffin standing near a vehicle matching this description in New Matamoras on the evening in question.  The investigation revealed that Ahart had driven that vehicle and upon obtaining consent to look in the vehicle, Detectives observed a lot of suspected smeared blood on the dash, door handle, floorboard, and other areas of the vehicle.

A warrant is being requested for Ahart, age 40, for complicity to commit aggravated robbery.

A warrant was issued for John Michael Decker, age 42, 1613 15th Avenue, Parkersburg, WV, for aggravated robbery, a 1st-degree felony, and felonious assault, a 2nd-degree felony, and Gabriella Iva Chaffin, age 19, 2603 16th Avenue, Parkersburg, WV, for complicity to commit aggravated robbery.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office Detectives, in cooperation with the Parkersburg City Police Department and the Parkersburg SWAT Unit arrested Decker and Chaffin at 2603 16th Avenue, Parkersburg, WV.
