On 1 Nov 18 Deputy Parks was dispatched to 165 Upper Archers Fork Road, New Matamoras, OH. David Kendall reported a 2014 Yamaha Grizzly 700 and a 2005 Honda 400 EX were stolen from his property on this date. Kendall stated the ATVs are always stored in a shed on his property and were there this morning.
Kendall reported to Deputy Parks that after he noticed his ATVs missing he followed the tire tracks through his front yard and onto Upper Archers Fork Road. Kendall states he made contact with a township trustee and advised him what had occurred on his property.
Deputy Parks met with the township trustee who stated he saw the ATVs but did not think much about it, however it appeared to him that the second one was being towed.
Deputy Parks and Lt. Hornbeck proceeded to 4230 Archers Fork Road, Independence Township, and observed Victoria Hendershot and Joseph Wells exiting the woods on foot. Also observed were fresh ATV tire tracks leading into the woods.
Lt. Hornbeck located the two ATVs in the wooded area where Wells and Hendershot came from. The shoe prints around the ATVs matched the shoes worn by the suspects. One ATV had fresh paint on it and Wells was observed with fresh paint on his hands.
Wells and Hendershot had left their two children, 10 months and 15 months, unattended in a vehicle while they were hiding the ATVs on the property at 4230 Archers Fork Road.
Joseph Franklin Wells, Jr., age 28, 104 Riley Drive, Apt. 10, Marietta, OH, was placed under arrest for 2 counts of theft, F4, breaking and entering, F5, tampering with evidence, F3, and endangering children, M1.
Victoria Lynn Hendershot, age 21, 104 Riley Drive, Apt. 10, Marietta, OH, was placed under arrest for endangering children, M1, and complicity to tamper with evidence, F3.
Both Wells and Hendershot were transported to the Washington County Jail and processed on the charges. Both Hendershot and Wells appeared in Marietta Municipal Court. Hendershot is being held on $15,000 bond and Wells is being held on $22,000 bond.
