On 1 Oct 18 at approximately 2358 hours Deputy Jones conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 77 near the 10-mile marker.

Upon approaching the vehicle the odor of marijuana emitted from the vehicle.  Deputy Zide assisted at the scene and observed suspected marijuana visible on the console.  K9 Rita was utilized and indicated on the vehicle.  The driver and passenger were identified as Brandy Stevenson and Tyara Ellis.

Ellis and Stevenson exited the vehicle and a search was conducted, a baggie of suspected marijuana was located on the floorboard, which Ellis stated belonged to her.  Also located were 2 sets of digital scales, syringes, a spoon with residue, a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine, and $480 US dollars.

The weight of the suspected methamphetamine was 42.63 grams, which field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Ellis and Stevenson denied the methamphetamine belonged to them.

Tyara Lashay Ellis, age 19, 210 Sullivan Avenue, Dunbar, WV, was placed under arrest for trafficking in drugs and possession of drugs.

Brandy Lee Stevenson, age 44, 1050 Ben Road, St. Albans, WV, was placed under arrest for possession of drugs and trafficking in drugs.

Ellis and Stevenson were transported to the Washington County Jail where jail staff located Brandy Stevenson with 1.18 grams of suspected methamphetamine in/or her person.  Stevenson was also charged with illegal conveyance of drugs and trafficking in drugs into a detention facility.

Stevenson remains incarcerated on a $57,500 bond after appearing in Marietta Municipal Court.

Ellis remains incarcerated on a $35,000 bond for the felony charge after appearing in Marietta Municipal Court.
