On 11 Dec 17 the Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a male subject at a residence on Blue Knob Road, Marietta, Warren Township, in handcuffs and “beat up pretty bad”.
Deputies responded to the location and met with a witness and the victim, who identified himself as Jerry Fields. Deputies later learned through investigation that Fields was actually James Thompson, and an active warrant was on file for Thompson.
Thompson was in handcuffs when Deputies arrived and was bleeding from several places on his head. The Warren Volunteer Fire Department Squad transported Thompson for medical treatment. Detectives were dispatched to the hospital to meet with Thompson.
Thompson advised Detectives that he was from Columbus, Ohio, and was staying at a friend’s house with his girlfriend. Thompson states the next day, 12 Dec 17, he was to take a bus to Texas to start a new job, however his girlfriend decided not to go with him to Texas so she called her mother to come get her. Thompson states the mother along with male subjects arrived, with one male grabbing him from behind in a choke hold and a second male, who he knew to be Wayne E Romine II, punched him several times. Thompson states one of the men placed handcuffs on his wrists and they forced him into a Dodge van, with Thompson screaming for help, at which time the men told the neighbor/witness they were bounty hunters. Thompson states as the van was pulling away, with him in the back, he was able to open the sliding side door and jump out and run for help.
Detectives spoke with Deputies who were on the scene and requested they take a photo line-up to the neighbor/witness and see if he was able to pick out the suspect who had assaulted Thompson. The neighbor/witness confirmed Thompson’s story and picked Wayne E Romine II out of the line-up with “100%” certainty.
Thompson further advised Wayne Romine II was the brother of his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend, who is currently being held in an Ohio Correctional Institution. Detectives followed up with the Correctional Institution and was able to confirm the inmate, along with relatives and Wayne Romine II being listed on the visitor log.
James Richard Thompson, age 36, 141 Braile Avenue, Columbus, Ohio, was later arrested on the warrant for parole violation, original charge of robbery.
Also at the location where Thompson was located was a Clarence Alvin Wriston III, age 43, 12865 State Route 676, Waterford, Ohio. Wriston was placed under arrest on warrants for driving under suspension and contempt of a court order. Wriston was transported to the Washington County Jail for processing.
Detectives are requesting an arrest warrant for Wayne Earl Romine II, age 25, 478 S. Richardson Avenue, Columbus, Ohio, for 1st degree felony kidnapping, 2nd degree felonious assault, and 5th degree felony possession of criminal tools, through Marietta Municipal Court.
If anyone has any information as to the whereabouts of Romine please contact your local law enforcement or call the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at 740-376-7070, ext. 0.
