NEWS RELEASES FOR 23 AUG 17
On 21 Aug 17 the Athens County Sheriff’s Office requested we patrol for a black 1999 Chevy SUV and conduct a welfare check on the occupants. This vehicle was transporting James Croston, along with four other subjects, which were possibly involved in a domestic violence incident in Athens County. Deputy Johnson located the vehicle driving near the intersection of State Route 550 and State Route 7 and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at the intersection of Fort Harmar Drive and Market Street. During our encounter with James Croston, it was found he had an active warrant out of Franklin County for failure to appear. Croston explained that warrant was not for him and claimed to be his brother. When comparing the photos of both individuals, it was determined James Croston provided false information to avoid arrest. James Nemo Lee Croston, age 40, 302 Lancaster Street, Marietta, was arrested for the warrant and also charged with obstructing justice and transported to the Washington County Jail for processing.
On 21 Aug 17 Deputy Carr responded to 1717 Mitchells Lane, Marietta, to meet with Bradley and Magen Cozzens at their residence in regards to an incident that occurred with Michael Herrington at their residence. Michael had left prior to my arrival and was located at his parent’s residence later. Michael went to 1717 Mitchells Lane at 1600hrs to pick up his daughter for visitation. Michael has had some concerns about his child, and on this date when Magen brought the child to the truck, she told Michael she wanted to talk to him. Magen was upset about Michael calling Children Services and was yelling at him. Michael stated during this time she poked him in the chest, while he was seated in the truck, and Michael began yelling back at her. Bradley Cozzens was on the front porch and yelled at Michael, telling him not to talk to his wife that way. Bradley came off of the porch and began approaching the truck, “in an aggressive manner”. It was reported that the child was upset and Magen got in the truck with her, therefore Michael could not leave. Michael was concerned over Bradley’s intentions and exited the truck, which led to a verbal, then physical confrontation, in which Michael pushed Bradley back. Bradley then made a fist and drew back as if to throw a punch and Michael was able to strike Bradley with his right fist in the face and pushed him back onto the ground. Michael stated they exchanged words and he left. A summons is being requested for Bradley W. Cozzens, age 37, 1717 Mitchell Lane, Marietta, and Michael D. Herrington, age 33, 106 Hillcrest Drive, Marietta, for disorderly conduct. (790)
