NEWS RELEASES FOR 17 JUL 17
On 13 Jul 17 Sgt. Mankins was dispatched to Patton Mills Road, Cutler, to a report of subject(s) setting off fireworks. Sgt. Mankins spoke with Jason Dotson who stated he set off the fireworks for the children to enjoy. Dotson stated that he was unaware that it was illegal to set them off. Jason S. Dotson, age 37, 1366 Patton Mills Road, Cutler, was placed under arrest for fireworks exhibitions and exhibitors – prohibited activities, a misdemeanor, and transported to the Washington County Jail for processing.
On 14 Jul 17 Sgt. Johnson began an investigation in Warren Township regarding a scam from subject(s) reporting they were affiliated with Microsoft. This case remains under investigation.
On 14 Jul 17 Sgt. Johnson responded to Muskingum River Road where it was reported trash had been dumped. Items were located revealing the possible subject(s) that discarded the trash. Contact was made in which they agreed to clean up the trash they had dumped. On 15 Jul 17 a check was made of the area, finding that the items were in fact cleaned up. This case is closed.
On 14 Jul 17 Deputy Zide began an investigation in reference to a 17-year-old juvenile not returning home. The investigation continued checking numerous areas and locations finding that on 15 Jul 17 the juvenile had returned home. The family requested no charges be filed on the child.
On 15 Jul 17 Sgt. Johnson was dispatched to Adams Township in reference to a report of domestic violence. Upon speaking with all parties it was determined to be unfounded. Case closed.
On 15 Jul 17 Deputy Schwendeman was approaching the intersection of Greene Street and Seventh Street, Marietta, when he observed a white Dodge truck traveling southbound on Seventh Street. The traffic light turned red as the truck approached and the truck continued through the light. A traffic stop was conducted, identifying the driver as Edward L. McGhee, 3828 Arlington Road, Uniontown, Ohio. McGhee advised he was unaware the light was red, and also reported his driver’s license was suspended. McGhee provided the vehicle registration but was unable to produce valid proof of insurance. A check of McGhee through dispatch revealed a license forfeiture suspension, with his last current driver’s license expiring in 2014. A citation was issued to McGhee for driving under suspension, and failure to obey a traffic control device.
On 15 Jul 17 Deputies along with the Reno Volunteer Fire Department Squad responded to Marietta Township in reference to a self-inflicted gunshot victim. This case remains under investigation. (790)
On 15 Jul 17 Deputies responded to 16920 State Route 550, Marietta, County, Ohio in reference receiving information that Branda A Houk, age 46, same address, was going to harm herself. Deputies made contact with Houk, who initially denied making the threats and having a handgun. Houck was agitated that Deputies were there and was not being cooperative or answering questions. Houck was observed unsteady on her feet, with an odor of an alcoholic beverage on/or about her person, with bloodshot glassy eyes. Houk stated that she consumed three Smirnoff’s throughout the day. Deputies observed text messages and pictures which revealed Houk with a handgun. Houk stated the pictures were old, however she was wearing the same clothing as in the pictures. Houk then advised the gun was a toy, and refused Deputies permission to search for the gun in the picture. Houk was placed under arrest and read her Miranda Rights. After being advised of her rights, Houk stated the gun was under the comforter on her bed. The homeowner then allowed Deputies to look for the gun, in which it was recovered and tagged as evidence. Houk was transported to the Washington County Jail on charges of weapons while intoxicated, tampering with evidence, obstructing official business, and weapons under disability. Once at the jail Houk tested .211 on a portable breathalyzer. (126)
On 15 Jul 17 Sgt. Holbert began an investigation in reference the Dollar General at 336 Orchard Road, Little Hocking, reporting a shoplifting. Items valued at over $52 were removed from the business. This case remains under investigation.

Nathan Perry Simmons, age 43, 3030 Lost Pavement Road, Parkersburg, WV, for probation violation. Simmons was picked up at SEPTA by Deputy Gerber of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 14 Jul 17 at 1:53 pm.
Nathaniel Ray Barnhart, age 18, 717 McGill Road, Vincent, for OVI, underage consumption and OVI .08 more/less than .17, all misdemeanors. Barnhart was arrested in Belpre by Trooper Knowlton of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and processed into the Washington County Jail on 15 Jul 17 at 3:13 am.
Branda Arlene Houk, age 46, 16920 State Route 550, Marietta, for having weapons under disability and tampering with evidence, both felonies, using weapons while intoxicated and obstructing official business, both misdemeanors. Houk was arrested by Deputy Hall of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 15 Jul 17 at 9:43 pm.
McKienze Brooke Clark, age 19, 2316 Highland Ridge Road, Lowell, for underage consumption, a misdemeanor. Clark was arrested on Highland Ridge Road by Deputy Hall of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 16 Jul 17 at 1:17 am.
Cody Aaron Farnsworth, age 20, 1089 Kinderhook Road, Newport, for underage consumption, a misdemeanor. Farnsworth was arrested on Highland Ridge Road by Deputy Hall of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 16 Jul 17 at 1:36 am.
Ty Lucas Cobb, age 20, 3635 Archers Fork Road, New Matamoras, for underage consumption, a misdemeanor. Cobb was arrested on Highland Ridge Road by Deputy Hall of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 16 Jul 17 at 1:50 am.

Zackary Reece Edwards, age 25, 105 Gates Avenue, Marietta, for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a felony, hit skip, FRA suspension and failure to control, all misdemeanors.
