NEWS RELEASES FOR 06 JUL 17
On 4 Jul 17 Deputy Metts began an investigation in regards to a subject walking and being struck by an unknown object. This case remains under investigation.
On 4 Jul 17 Lt. Hornbeck responded to a residence at the rear of 103 Race Street, Marietta, in reference to Delbert Cain and Felicia Jackson being together at the residence. Lt. Hornbeck spoke with Cain on the porch of the residence. Cain advised Felicia Jackson was at the residence to get her purse she had forgotten there but had already left prior to my arrival. Cain acknowledged the two were not supposed to be together but they were making plans to take their child to see the fireworks and they were working out their relationship issues. Lt. Hornbeck spoke to witnesses who advised Jackson had come to the trailer in a red car, which Lt. Hornbeck verified was still at the residence. Lt. Hornbeck again spoke to Cain and he again denied Jackson was in the residence, however allowed Deputies to walk through the home. During the walkthrough Jackson was located hiding under some blankets in the bedroom. Delbert Daniel Cain, age 41, 103 Race Street, Marietta, was taken into custody for violating a temporary protection order, and transported to the Washington County Jail for processing.
On 4 Jul 17 Deputy A. McConnell arrested Scott Allen Shankland, age 47, 401 Marion Street, Marietta, on a breaking and entering charge. On 29 Jun 17 we began an investigation where Patricia L. Tate reported items stolen from a boat in Marietta Township, 27425 State Route 7. Other victims have come forward stating batteries and gasoline had been taken from their boats and/or campers, as well as electronic devices. The investigation revealed that at a nearby residence there was a party with a large number of people attending. Witnesses were contacted in which it was determined that Shankland was most likely the individual entering the storage area. Also reports were that Shankland returned to the party and had an odor of gasoline about his person, bragging about stealing batteries. In speaking with Shankland he advised he did not have anything to do with the theft. Based on the statements of witnesses Shankland was placed under arrest for breaking and entering and transported to the Washington County Jail.
On 5 Jul 17 Deputy Carr responded to 38137 State Route 7, Newport, regarding a domestic disturbance. Garren Griffin called 911 due to his daughter, Ashley Griffin, being intoxicated and out of control. Deputy Carr arrived on scene and could hear a female yelling from the rear outside area of the residence. Deputy Carr made contact with the female, who would not speak with him. Griffin was lying on the ground with a broken planter scattered around the area, which she had earlier damaged. Griffin began to speak with Deputy Carr, however was slurring her speech and had an odor of an alcoholic beverage about her person. Griffin was upset over her canine which had just died, and she had been consuming alcohol and damaging items at the residence. Based on Griffin’s condition she was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct and transported to the Washington County Jail for processing. Griffin submitted to a portable breath test, with the result of .195 BAC.
On 6 Jul 17 Lt. Hunter began an investigation regarding possible identity fraud. This case remains under investigation.
The following suspects were processed into the Washington County Jail between Wednesday 05 Jul 17 and Thursday 06 Jul 17:
Ashley Lynn Griffin, age 30, 38137 State Route 7, Newport, for disorderly conduct while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. Griffin was arrested by Deputy Carr of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 05 Jul 17 at 5:22 pm.
Daniel Ryan Smith, age 24, 6980 Legends Highway, Oak Hill, WV, for operating with expired O/L, a misdemeanor. Smith was arrested in Marietta by Patrolman Smith of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 05 Jul 17 at 5:42 pm.
Michael Matthew Cox, age 33, 4779 W. 130th Street, Cleveland, OH, for drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. Cox was arrested in Cleveland by Trooper Forshey of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and processed into the Washington County Jail on 05 Jul 17 at 10:31 pm.
Angelo Antonio Vance Jr., age 28, 1720 Duff Road, New Matamoras, for possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, misdemeanors. Vance was arrested in Marietta by Patrolman Bonnette of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 06 Jul 17 at 3:05 am.
Jeremy Heath Ryan, age 24, 638 Hope Hill Road, Parkersburg, WV, for probation violation, a felony. Ryan was arrested at the Adult Parole Authority Office by Deputy Stackpole of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 6 Jul 17 at 10:22 am.
There are currently 19 females and 84 males incarcerated in the Washington County Jail.
