On 9 Jun 17 Detectives with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into injuries received to a 2 month old Belpre child, which resulted in the arrest of Graeme Philip Alexander, age, 27, 814 Leonard Avenue, Belpre, on 13 Jun17 at 2:55 pm.
The child had been taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital and transferred to Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) the same date, 7 Jun 17. Detectives travelled to NCH and spoke with medical staff regarding the child Medical staff reported the injuries to the child were consistent with being violently shaken. Detectives also were advised that approximately 2 weeks ago the child was seen with similar symptoms. Detectives were advised that both times the child was taken for medical treatment Alexander was alone with the child.
Detectives met with Alexander who stated that on 7 Jun 17 he had laid the child in the crib to sleep and had also gone to sleep himself, which was around 6 am. Alexander further stated he was awoken by the child crying at around 8:00 am, and tried to get the child to stop crying, but the child continued crying. Alexander stated he was bouncing the child in his arms and stated that he shook the baby so hard he quit crying. Alexander then stated the child began choking, had labored breathing and was turning blue so he drove to the MMH ER Belpre Campus.
Alexander was placed under arrest for a 2nd degree felony child endangering and transported to the Washington County Jail for processing where he remained without bond until a court appearance in Marietta Municipal Court.
Appearing in Marietta Municipal Court on 14 Jun 17 Alexander is now under a $100,000 PR bond.
