Colonel Ebenezer Sproat

Special News Release 10 May 17

On Friday, 12 May 17, at 1000 hrs. the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association will dedicate a new marker at the grave site of Colonel Ebenezer Sproat.  Colonel Sproat was the first Sheriff of the Northwest Territory from 1788 to 1802. 

The grave of Colonel Sproat is located in Mound Cemetery, Marietta, Ohio.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard will post colors.  BSSA President Sheriff Wasylyshyn, Sheriff Mincks, and a descendant of Sheriff Sproat will speak at the dedication.
